Women's March Portrait Pop-Up with Soul & Ink

  • Jos A Magnus Distillery (map)

"I toyed with the idea of watching the Women's March from a distance--like I do with so many things in my life. But this time, I realized I wanted to take real action. I decided that physically being part of the experience would be more impactful--to enrich my own life (selfishly) by sharing my presence in solidarity with others, (altruistically.) There's strength in community & in showing up. Honestly, I felt pressured to 'walk the talk.' I basically called myself out on my own complacency. I didn't just want to re-post pictures I found from other people on the Internet. I wanted to be part of the process." - Quoted from EricaSchlaikjer , 2017 Women's March Portrait Pop-Up with Soul & Ink

You’re not alone in your thoughts and your feelings towards our current administration and your perspective on women's rights.

Join us for a portrait pop-up hosted at Jos A Magnus Distillery (women ran!) in the Magnus Room with Screen Printing Extraordinaires, Soul & Ink! We're all about vulnerability and honesty during any events conducted with Behold.Her. We understand that your reasons for marching could be emotional, but we're here to listen and to share with those who can't march with us! Let's take the initiative!

Sometimes it takes a little motivation to get out of the house and break out our comfort zones for a moment. There will be plenty others rushing from work and feeling like a hot mess or feel uncomfortable with coming into an event without any expectations. As we get older, it’s becoming more difficult to make friends and genuine friendships. As women, we’re so careful about what we share and how we share, that it’s built barriers around expressing ourselves to each other in an honest way. As technology continues to grow, so does the distance we create from the lost art of conversation. This event isn’t meant to be pretty. It’s meant to challenge you, to push you to break from the norm, and to give you permission to share your story unapologetically. We’re here for you, just like you’re being present for us.

What to Expect

THIS IS NOT A TRADITIONAL PORTRAIT EVENT, this is ONLY a pop-up, which will involve just the portraits and interviews. Your evening will begin with a complimentary cocktail and small bites provided to you for the night. Any additional drinks can be purchased at the bar (they're fucking amazing by the way). Then you'll wait for one of our volunteers to call out your name for your portrait and interview. It's imperative that you show on time in order for you to participate in the series. We encourage you to mingle with the other women in line and of course exploring the room where Soul & Ink will be stationed at, demonstrating how to make screenprints for posters for the march! There will be one-on-one interviews and portraits taken with Founder and Photographer, Leah Beilhart. These images and audio recordings will be used online adding to an online gallery of voices. This is in a documentary style format and is used to illustrate unheard voices and opinions. These images will be accessible to you to download after the event, but they are not meant to be used commercially. Images are chosen and edited for you to alleviate the delivery process. Additional photos are not provided for purchase. Again, this pop-up is the only Behold. Her event that is created as a documentary project, this is not meant to be used as an opportunity for a new LinkedIn headshot.

House Rules + Respect

We have these to emphasize respect towards those we’re meeting with and recognizing we’re more than just a face. Even though this is not a traditional portrait event, we would still encourage the following, though we know, a lot will be going on.

  1. No phones - you're out of the house for a reason!

  2. No need to discuss where you work or who you work for, it's all about that small percentage we don't get to talk about much. We love you for you, not what you do.

This brand and these events are not meant to please everyone, but they are built to host every type of woman. We have no labels here. The only labels are the ones we place on ourselves. The only exceptions held are the ones we carry over our heads. We’re not here to impress each other, compete with each other, or trade services with each other. We’re all gathering together because we believe that the art of conversation & community is powerful and we all need a little shoulder to cry on, a trustworthy person in our lives and a space to not have to be anyone else other than ourselves.

What Your Ticket Includes

Please choose the ticket you are able to afford. There are different individually priced tickets. Our higher-priced tickets will allow another woman to come in who needs financial assistance. You will be put on our website as one of our sponsors for the event. Keep in mind that if you decide to choose something lower, you may be jeopardizing the chance for another woman to attend that could be struggling. Your ticket includes small bites, a cocktail, a beautiful venue, an interview and portrait session with a personal download. You do not get to choose the image (to alleviate time with editing and publishing on time), but you do have the rights to download and use as you please. Requests will not be taken to purchase more images. If you'd like to receive a more in-depth photography session, it will need to be booked outside of Behold.Her. These images are a part of a documentary series.

What Do I Wear?

We'll be shooting on a black backdrop. We'll be coordinating outfits prior to the event via email after your ticket is purchased.

Did Something Come Up?

If you purchased a ticket and you’re unable to attend, please donate your ticket to a friend or email to donate to those who aren’t able to afford one.

Soul & Ink

We couldn't have done this without Soul & Ink the first round and of course, we happily accepted the invitation to work side by side again in 2018!
